Is it time to bring some self-compassion, acceptance and kindness into your life?

Hello and welcome to Ameigh Therapy. I'm Charlotte Ameigh (She/Her), I'm a Yorkshire based BACP therapist specialising in integrative counselling. I support people struggling with issues that are getting in the way of them leading the life they want.

I'll start by letting you into a secret. One of the best things about what I do, is when a client tells me that they feel like they don't need to see me anymore. That's when I know that creating time and space for self-compassion, kindness and yes, therapy has paid off.

I think one of the many reasons I was drawn to talking therapies is because I want people to see that as human beings, we aren't flawed or broken. It's just that sometimes we get stuck and overwhelmed or we just can't see our way out of a situation. And this is why I believe talking therapies are such a powerful solution to many of the issues holding us back in our lives. Whether it's relationship issues, low confidence or self-esteem, anxiety, depression, bereavement or anger management. Therapy can help you find a way through.

Why integrate CBT, positive psychology, hypnotherapy or NLP techniques?

Simple! Because I know it works. I've turned to separate therapies on many occasions in my life and I've felt the same breakthroughs and lightbulb moment as my clients. It never ceases to amaze me that just a few sessions can start to improve and contribute to long lasting, positive change in someone's life.

My ethos and approach

I follow a 'person-centred' approach to therapy, which is based on three core concepts: that as your therapist I am genuine, non-judgmental and empathetic. These qualities underpin my practice and every client session interaction. I see my role as simply providing you with a safe and positive space to grow and develop. My ethos is based on the teachings of the psychologist Carl Rogers who developed the person or client centred approach to therapy I mention above, and Milton Erikson for his work in hypnosis and family therapy. I've added links so that you can read a little more about them, their work and theories. I love this Carl Rogers quote in particular because it sums up how I see people.

'A person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity, a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits.'
Carl R. Rogers, On Becoming a Person: A Therapist's View of Psychotherapy

How I can support you

While this page gives you an insight to who I am, what I do and why, what's more important is showing you how I can support you. There's more detail about hypnotherapy and the other talking therapies I practice on my What's it all about page while my Fees & Services page will show you just that - my fees. I've also added a free Relaxation recording for you to access whenever you want.

You can also email me ameightherapy@gmail.com or call me on 07835 925788 with your questions. You can also hear from clients I've worked with on my Testimonials page.

Virtual sessions from Yorkshire

I am based in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, and work with clients in person and virtually using an online platform. Many clients have discovered a virtual online session can be just as wonderful and effective as meeting in person.

My experience and qualifications

I studied Psychology at Lancashire University before heading into the world of education. I spent 20 years as a school teacher, supporting young people in their learning and emotional education. Completing my MSc in Counselling and Positive Psychology allowed me to better understand the specific strategies needed to help people achieve emotional wellness. As well as being a BACP accredited counsellor I also hold qualifications in teaching, hypnotherapy and NLP.

I am pleased to offer my services to people with ASD and neurodivergence, whether or not they have been diagnosed. This encompasses any of the following: autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Tourettes, and OCD.
